International (Foreign) Student Admission Requirements

The CSU must assess the academic preparation of foreign students. For this purpose, “foreign students” include those who hold U.S. temporary visas as students, exchange visitors, or in other non-immigrant classifications. The CSU uses separate requirements and application filing dates in the admission of “foreign students”. Verification of English proficiency (see the section on the English Language Requirement for undergraduate applicants), financial resources, and academic performance are each important considerations for admission. Academic records from foreign institutions must be on file at least eight weeks before the first term and, if not in English, must be accompanied by certified English translations.

International visa applicants are required to comply with the following requirements and instructions:
  • Applicants must file the application for admission accompanied by a nonrefundable application fee. An application is for a specific term and is not transferable to any other term. Because the evaluation of international credentials may take considerable time, separate filing deadlines are in effect for applications from foreign visa students.
  • Applicants must submit an affidavit of financial support. The form is available from the Office of Admissions and Records.
  • All official documents submitted become the property of the University and will not be returned or forwarded. The acceptability of any international work will be determined by the University. For more information visit the International Students website: http://csudh.edu/international.

Note: International students may not enroll in online, part-time, credential, or certificate programs.
